Certificate
in Health Professions Teaching |
| Through its School of Health-Related Professions,
UMDNJ offers a 12-credit Web-based Post-Graduate Certificate in
Health Professions Teaching. The Certificate is designed to enhance
the proficiency of health sciences faculty in teaching and curriculum
design, while providing elective options to meet individual needs
related to one's specific instructional role.

| Outcome Goals
Faculty completing the Certificate in Health Professions Teaching
will be able to:
- Apply relevant sources of purpose, content determination strategies
and applicable screens to plan and develop an instructional activity for a
defined audience, to include:
- Outcome standards, goals & objectives
- Methods/modes of instruction
- Resources and instructional materials
- Procedures (organization, sequence, integration, etc)
- Evaluation strategies
- Maintenance plan
- Select, develop and utilize appropriate student and curricular
evaluation tools to assess:
- Individual student ability, competence and/or performance in the
cognitive, psychomotor and affective domains
- The quality and appropriateness of instructional processes
(formative assessment)
- The results or outcomes of instructional activities (summative
assessment)
- Demonstrate basic proficiency as a teacher/facilitator in one or more
of the following settings/roles:
- Traditional classroom teaching Multimedia-augmented classroom
teaching
- Small group teaching/facilitation
- Laboratory demonstration/investigation
- Clinic/bedside teaching/preceptoring
- Community- or office-based teaching/preceptoring
- Teaching with technology
- Web-based/asynchronous electronic delivery
- Live/broadcast or teleconferenced instruction
- Computer-based instruction (e.g., CD-ROM)
- Implement in their teaching roles educational methods based on the
best available evidence
- Apply current legal and ethical standards to the teaching role

| Curriculum
The Certificate curriculum requires completion of four 3-credit
courses, all delivered over the Internet using the University's
WebCT platform. Course requirements are summarized below:
